Dentures

A denture is a custom-made appliance designed to replace missing teeth and restore your smile. In addition to improving appearance, dentures help support the cheeks and lips, making it easier to speak clearly and chew comfortably.

What Are Dentures?

Depending on how many teeth are missing, your doctor may recommend:

  • Complete (Full) Dentures – Replace all teeth in the upper or lower arch.
  • Partial Dentures – Replace several missing teeth while fitting around your remaining natural teeth. These are carefully designed to blend in and are often very natural in appearance.

While dentures restore function and aesthetics, it does take a short adjustment period to become fully comfortable with eating and speaking. With time and practice, most patients adapt very well.

Just like natural teeth, dentures should be cleaned daily to maintain their appearance and protect your oral health.

What Does the Process Involve?

Creating dentures typically requires several appointments over a few weeks.

  • Detailed impressions (molds) and measurements are taken to ensure accuracy.
  • One or more “try-in” visits may be scheduled to evaluate the shape, color, and fit.
  • At your final appointment, your doctor will carefully adjust and place your completed denture to ensure optimal comfort and a natural look.

What To Expect After Placement

It is normal at first to experience:

  • Increased saliva flow
  • Mild sore spots
  • Minor speech changes
  • Some difficulty chewing

These symptoms are temporary and improve as your muscles and tissues adapt to the new appliance. Follow-up adjustments are sometimes needed to fine-tune the fit and ensure your comfort.
